Linux on Netbooks - Hope for the Future
Blog The massive Hoopla surrounding the release of Windows 7 (aka Vista with Lipstick) got me wondering about the netbook market. Then Microsoft finally started to realize that customers and OEMs alike were onto them about what a pig Vista was (and not...

Windows 7 on the Apricot netbook
Blog Hell no - even on the much more desirable HP 2133 Mini Note netbook, Vista is way too much of a resource hog. Those of you who keep an eye on this blog will have read my thoughts about Apricot's PicoBook Pro netbook - out of the current crop of low...

That's a netbook test, and can't be compared to full spec desktop machines
Talkback Does your laptop or desktop machine have the limitations of a netbook? Also I am not a MS fanboy, my netbook runs puppy linux 4.3. I have been benchmarking myself with the Win7 RC, I find it quicker than Vista for everything, and I don't bother...

Windows 7 can boot more slowly than Vista
Talkback I have friends with Vista laptops that are still slow and flaky running with all the latest service packs, and compare very unfavourably to my Netbook running Win7. My Netbook boots to a usable state in about 1 minute 20 seconds.

RE: Less than an OS, less than free
Blog Comment The real "scandal" in the netbook market was Microsoft forcing manufacturers to use Windows Vista. Even after it was obvious that Vista was a stinking pile of garbage on typical netbook hardware (the primary problems were the Atom CPU and 945/950...

Hewlett Packard Mini 2140 Notebook PC
Blog The aluminum casing makes this netbook look and feel every inch the businessperson's machine, and puts the plastic shell of other netbooks firmly in consumer-land. Not something I've been able to say about every netbook I've used.

HP "Entertainment PC" Revisited
Blog I started to write this as a follow-up comment on my new HP dv2-1010ez netbook/notebook. The 12.1" 1280x800 display is wonderful - although I am able to work with the typical 1024x600 netbook displays, it is really much nicer to have the higher...

HP 2133 Mini-Note
Blog I received my new HP 2133 Mini-Note (netbook, if you want to call it that) Friday afternoon. Of course, the 2133 is one of the "older" of the netbook generation, so you need to be aware of what you are buying.

Win 7 on Netbooks? Easy to do.
Talkback It will certainly answer the netbook question. If it runs on a P3 it certainly without a doubt OUGHT to run on a current netbook. Laptop Linux isn't going to make much of a dent unless Android gets a real BIG push by Google onto the same netbook...

HP Mini 2140 - Strongly Recommended!
Blog It came with SuSE Linux Enterprice Desktop (SLED) 10, which is rather old already, but that didn't matter to me because I already knew that I was going to reload it with Ubuntu Netbook Remix. What more could you ask for from a netbook?

Living with the Sony Vaio P
Blog Sony doesn’t call the Vaio P a netbook and to be fair the lack of willingness to use the name isn’t just about snobbery. The P series notebooks offer more than the average netbook does, including built in SIM support for mobile 3G (the SIM card...

XP won't upgrade to 7
Talkback That means that if one has a netbook with WinXP, they will not be able to upgrade to Win7. Of course any netbook can be upgraded to a Linux distro. I have Ubuntu Netbook Remix on mine, and it is just perfect for it.

RE: Microsoft's pre-modern message puts a new face on Vista
Blog Comment We've yet to see what Windows 7 is going to look like - but that may be a sawn-off Vista with a nod to the embedded/netbook market. I'm not sure that investing more in Vista will do it any good. All of Microsoft's marketing will be aimed at keeping...
