Dell Demos Ubuntu NR & Latest Android Release on Netbook
Blog Not normally in the habit of posting video links on here, but this one, posted just a few days ago on the official Dell YouTube channel, has Doug Anson, a Dell technology strategist showing off the new Mini 10v running both Ubuntu Netbook Remix...

HP Mini 2140 - I Get To Try One!
Blog Because the 2140 came with a relatively old SuSE Linux Enterprise Desktop (SLED) 10 installed, I decided to just skip that and go straight for the throat - install Ubuntu Netbook Remix, and be done with it and ready to work in 30 minutes or less.

HP Mini 2140 - Strongly Recommended!
Blog It came with SuSE Linux Enterprice Desktop (SLED) 10, which is rather old already, but that didn't matter to me because I already knew that I was going to reload it with Ubuntu Netbook Remix. I think this is one of the situations where the Ubuntu...

Ubuntu 9.04 'Jaunty Jackalope' Release Candidate
Blog Comment I have not yet tried the final release of the Netbook Remix, but I did try the daily builds a couple of times a week or two ago. I have personally loaded it on both of our HP 2133 Mini-Notes, one with WXGA (1280x768) and one with WSVGA (1024x600).

Notes On the HP 2133 Mini-Note
Blog The most obvious place where this is visible is that the 2133 just can't run the Ubuntu Netbook Remix well at all, the 3D effects on the UNR desktop are painfully slow. I have gotten a query from another HP 2133 Mini-Note owner about my previous...

Convincing the World, One Computer and One User at a Time
Blog A few weeks ago I wrote about setting up a good friend with an HP Mini 2140 running Ubuntu Netbook Remix. No sweat, I have prepared one of the HP 2133 Mini-Notes with Ubuntu, and all the email and communication software he might want to use on it.

Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) Final Release
Blog I have not installed the Ubuntu Netbook Remix (UNR), because it has serious performance problems with the openchrome driver in my HP Mini-Note netbooks. A number of drivers have been updated - most interesting to me is that it has the latest...

Linux on Netbooks - Hope for the Future
Blog Comment Last month, with the final release of Moblin v2.0, Dell began offering its Mini 10v netbook with an early developer's version of the Moblin-based Ubuntu Moblin Remix, and other distributions are also expected to arrive this fall sporting all or...

What Do We Expect from Netbooks?
Blog The Ubuntu Netbook Remix is one example of this, but there are plenty of others. In my experience with the Mini-Note, the major limiting factor is the size. I've had an HP 2133 Mini-Note for a few weeks now, and I think that both of these things...

Excellent Information
Talkback It seems to me that there is an interesting diversion between Moblin and Ubuntu Netbook Remix in the way that they perceive the user. I had been very curious about Moblin, and you saved me from strugging to load it on my HP Mini-Note.

Moblin on the Nettop - First Steps
Blog I've wanted to look at moblin for quite some time, but had held back because my HP Mini-Note netbooks have VIA cpu and graphic chips, and I've heard that they can be difficult with moblin (and I saw for myself that they are difficult with the...

Ubuntu Netbook Remix - An Acid Test
Blog At the end of last week I got the opportunity to start an "Acid Test" of the latest Ubuntu Netbook Remix. I wish there was a "Mint Netbook Remix".sigh. One of my neighbors had seen my HP Mini-Note, and said that she thought something like that...

Fair is Fair - Ubuntu Netbook Remix
Blog Ok, so I realized that if I'm going to be fair about this, in addition to trying Moblin on the nettop, I really should try the Ubuntu Netbook Remix (UNR). I've mentioned several times that I have tried it, very briefly, on the HP Mini-Note, and the...

Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) Final Release
Blog Comment If you are considering only Ubuntu releases, this is now quite easy, and I have done it a number of times - for example, this is how I have tried out UNR (Netbook Remix) several times. Of course, your target system has to have a BIOS which allows...

ASUS N10J - Netbook or Notebook?
Blog Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04: I did this one first, because I consider it to be the obvious choice. Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope): The standard distribution installs just as easily as the Netbook Remix, and actually works somewhat better because it...

Notes On the HP 2133 Mini-Note
Blog Comment But the Ubuntu Netbook Remix desktop seems to make extensive use of OpenGL, because it is painfully slow on the 2133 (and on the ASUS N10J when using the nVidia adapter and nv driver). Hi Adam, Thanks for the explanation and information.

Using Xfce for a Netbook Desktop
Blog As I have said before, I think the Ubuntu Netbook Remix (which is based on the Gnome desktop) is good for casual users, but I think it is a bit tedious for experienced users, and I find the Moblin desktop to be mostly inscrutable.

Ubuntu Netbook Remix "Acid Test" - First Results
Blog Comment I finally got around to trying UNR on my HP MINI. Good article Jamie. Got it installed to my 16gig stick and have ran it as live only, so far. The layout seems to be an acceptable alternative from a native KDE screen, everything self explanatory.
