you need to experience as a woman in IT
Talkback As a woman in this industry for a few years, I am just so annoyed by those geeky, judging, no-humor, back stabbing male co-workers. Most of them are soo closed minded. When you accomplished something big, they just think you didn't do it and talked...

Self-esteem and emerging contributions
Talkback It is formulated in general terms, because the behavior and reactions are uniquely and probably also excluding, but more somewhat a limit in culture. It was initially thought as a movement towards more equality.

Elitism...expectations of failure...
Talkback A female hacker I know was at a hacker conference when another female hacker walked up and asked (in a very rude tone), "so, are you actually a geek, or just a scene whore? She spat back "I had my ham license when I was 14.

Only recruiting firms?
Talkback Do you only go to recruiting firms for hires? Maybe try looking elsewhere. I always get jobs from networking. By the way, if you're looking for programmers, can I suggest sending job opening announcements to DevChix?

I'd agree with the woman in that case
Talkback Only 2mbps? That's not worth getting excited over. And I remember reading that in India more women were going into IT now because it increased their value for arranged marriages. A large chunk of the girls in the engineering school I attend are...

Jobs in UK
Talkback Work Related Credit Checks: How to Handle Them If You Have a Poor Credit Score When many of us think of credit history, credit scores, or credit ratings, financial loans are often the first things that come to mind.

Protect myself
Talkback And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why, when the Government decides it's okay to spy on us, I shall be using a proxy set-up via ssh to a server in the US. SSH is encrypted, so let them crack those packets to "deep inspect" them.

Better country
Talkback Head to Sweden! Seriously, they have the best record at social liberty, as proven by the fact that The Pirate Bay is being allowed to continue to exist (well.that's the expected outcome of the trial, which had no evidence, anyway)

Addressing the issues is a job for?
Talkback Andrew - I did state that there are a host of reasons why women arent in the industry. I simply didnt list them. The reason I didnt list them, is because its largely pointless (in my opinion). I'll explain why in a minute, but let me first discuss...

Stating facts versus opinions
Talkback Rather than saying I'm "flippantly negative", all I have done is stated the facts present. I dont believe I've used any pejorative terms. You, on the other hand, are making numerous assumptions. Including:

Are you based in Bombay?
Talkback Thanks for the info. Seems from your profile you are based in Bombay - do you think that your view is a product of the attitude of Indian society to woman in the workplace? Or is it that woman don't get the educational opportunites that men do - I...

Discrimination is not the real issue
Talkback In my experience there tends to be a lot of 'positive discrimination' in favour of women in the IT industry. The few women I have worked with in this sector have always been treated very well even at the expense of their male colleagues.
