New and Updated Distributions on Ant (the Dual Atom nettop)
Blog Ubuntu (including the Netbook Remix): A comment to my recent posting about UNR on an Eee PC led me to installing the "ubuntu-restricted-extras" package, to get a number of useful add-ons and plug-ins all installed at once.

Xubuntu on the Acer Aspire One
Blog I was a bit bored with the sluggish performance of Ubuntu Netbook Remix on my small but perfectly formed Aspire One, so following on from oiio's personal experience, I've installed Xubuntu. It was a bit tricky installing Xubuntu in the first...

Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) Final Release
Blog I have not installed the Ubuntu Netbook Remix (UNR), because it has serious performance problems with the openchrome driver in my HP Mini-Note netbooks. The downloads became available yesterday afternoon, European time, and I have now installed it...

Ubuntu Netbook Remix - An Acid Test
Blog At the end of last week I got the opportunity to start an "Acid Test" of the latest Ubuntu Netbook Remix. I wish there was a "Mint Netbook Remix".sigh. Everything went smoothly, and it was installed and running in well under an hour.

HP Mini 2140 - I Get To Try One!
Blog Because the 2140 came with a relatively old SuSE Linux Enterprise Desktop (SLED) 10 installed, I decided to just skip that and go straight for the throat - install Ubuntu Netbook Remix, and be done with it and ready to work in 30 minutes or less.

ASUS N10J - Netbook or Notebook?
Blog Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope): The standard distribution installs just as easily as the Netbook Remix, and actually works somewhat better because it doesn't have the display performance problems when the nVidia is installed, nor does it have the...

A Tempest in a Nostalgic Teapot
Blog Ubuntu actually provides a good example of this, because the Ubuntu Netbook Remix, which is still Gnome-based, does not include GIMP, and the Ubuntu KDE Netbook distribution also does not include GIMP, but includes Gwenview rather than F-spot.

Ubuntu 9.10 (karmic Koala) on Netbooks - Part 1 (Overview)
Blog Comment The Intel driver is quite good in this area, so you can turn on Advanced Video Effects, or run the Ubuntu Netbook Remix, and it all works very nicely. That means you can't enable Advanced Video Effects (not a big deal), and if you try to run the...

AA1 Ubuntu bugs & niggly bits
Blog Apparently there is now an "Ubuntu Netbook Remix (UNR) installer image with the LPIA kernel" available, and this "can be installed as-is on an Aspire One", thereby greatly reducing the number of steps.

Samsung NC20 - A Brief Encounter
Blog My first thought was to put Ubuntu Netbook Remix on it, since we were treating it as a netbook. What we actually wanted to do with the NC20 this weekend was get Linux installed on it alongside the existing Windows XP Home.

Less than an OS, less than free
Blog Comment Take for instance the Ubuntu netbook remix used on many models; it had a bug that meant it couldn't connect to a password-protected fileshare. Or the Linpus distro that went out without an SMB browser at all (and even after you wrestled it into...

Ubuntu 9.10 (karmic Koala) on Netbooks - Part 4 (Xubuntu Xfce)
Blog Part 2 I looked at the Ubuntu Netbook Remix, which is probably the best known of the netbook-centric versions. It is also worth mentioning that both the Xubuntu and Kubuntu distributions are in fact more than just the standard Ubuntu distribution...

Linux on Netbooks - with PICTURES!
Blog First up, probably the best known of the group, the Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) Netbook Remix (UNR): In fact, even though I have kept the Kubuntu patched up to date, I haven't seen any changes or updates to the KDE Netbook Desktop come through since...

Using Xfce for a Netbook Desktop
Blog As I have said before, I think the Ubuntu Netbook Remix (which is based on the Gnome desktop) is good for casual users, but I think it is a bit tedious for experienced users, and I find the Moblin desktop to be mostly inscrutable.

Ubuntu Netbook Remix "Acid Test" - Wrap-Up
