I'm using Linux on my home PC right now
Talkback I can install anything in Mandriva's repository without having to touch the command line. Mandriva is constantly monitoring my installed software against the repositories for available updates, as do Ubuntu, or Red Hat, SuSE and so on.

Ubuntu Netbook Remix "Acid Test" - Wrap-Up
Blog Comment I'm not surprised that Mandriva worked, it is a very good distribution in its own right. I think a Mandriva Netbook Remix would be a great idea! Hmmm. That's odd, Ator. Any indication of why the wireless network didn't come up?

Two New Linux Beta Distributions
Blog Comment Seriously, the problem has S2110 (ATI) problem has appeared with the Mandriva 2009.0 distribution, the 2008 distributions installed just fine - and I suspect that is why PCLinuxOS still installs smoothly on it, because it doesn't look to me as if...

Karmic Koala Krashes
Blog Comment As I mentioned to Ator yesterday, based on my experiences so far installing Ubuntu 9.10 and Mandriva 2010.0, if I had to choose only one I would almost certainly choose Mandriva. I think you may be exactly right about what has been damaged the...

Traveling Success with Linux
Blog During this trip I have tried Ubuntu, Kubuntu (Ubuntu with the KDE desktop), and Mandriva, and all three have performed extremely well. That much I was able to test before leaving, and confirmed that both Ubuntu and Mandriva suspend/resume just fine.

The Range of Linux Distributions
Blog Comment I have found at least the last two releases of Ubuntu to be significantly easier to install than either Mandriva or openSuSE. One time I made a mistake, and started installing Mandriva Free rather than Mandriva One.

Ubuntu 8.10 and OpenOffice.org 3.0
Blog This is a sort of interesting role-reversal with Mandriva, who have typically been the more conservative about including new software in their releases, but they have OpenOffice 3.0.0 in their Mandriva 2009.0 release.

OpenOffice.org 3.0 Release Candidate 4 (RC4) Available
Blog I have been using OOo 2.4.1 on my Linux systems, because that is what comes bundled with Ubuntu 8.04 and Mandriva 2008, and 3.0 on Vista because I had to install it myself anyway, and it has gotten to the point where I notice the difference right...

PCLinuxOS 2009.1 Released

In Praise of Gparted
Blog Of course you can't alter the partition you are booted from (or any other mounted partition for that matter), so I booted my nice new Mandriva 2009.1 partition - it understands ext4 file systems, so I should be able to do what I want from there.
