Major bug in MS Excel 2007

Blog Comment It's a good 'un. I'm not sure how serious it really is - as others have said, it only affects the display of the number, not its internal representation, and that's the sort of thing which is terribly difficult to write automated test sequences to...

OpenOffice.org gives MS Office a run for no money

News It's so hard to let go. Even those IT managers who want to make the break from Microsoft to Linux can't find the strength to let go of Microsoft Office. They can't imagine something that could replace it.

Don't pirate MS-Office: use ours, says OpenOffice.org

Talkback The fact is, it doesn't do everything that Office does. Where is a calendar/diary app in OpenOffice? I can't work without one. OpenOffice lacks this important feature and will never be considered as a serious alternative to Office until it does.

Vista 'really good, really' says MS. 'Like we care?' says world

Blog Comment Two basically unrelated thoughts about your post, Rupert. First, if Windows 7 is supposed to be 18 months away, but Microsoft makes the same kind of mess of its release that they did with Vista, and it slips another 12-18 months, that actually puts...

Vista 'really good, really' says MS. 'Like we care?' says world

Just how successful is the MS/Novell pact?

Blog Comment I find it bizarre that you would expect a global organisation to roll out new software to all users in all countries more-or-less simultaneously. Walmart is a big enough company that its various divisions may have worthwhile business reasons for...

Vista 'really good, really' says MS. 'Like we care?' says world

Vista 'really good, really' says MS. 'Like we care?' says world

Blog Comment "To be CEO of Microsoft" reminds me of a movie with Whoppi Goldberg called "Eddie" where she plays a New York cabby that back-seat coaches the Knicks and then through a totally unrealistic and contrived event ends up coaching them for real.
