SP2 clashes with more than 40 programs
News Microsoft has published the details of more than 40 programs that have conflicts with the newly released Windows XP SP2. The list includes several widely used Microsoft products including SQL, Visual Studio .Net, and SMS 2003 Server.

Talkback To the people who have had trouble installing SP2 on their Mesh AMD 64 computers. I had this trouble. Neither Mesh nor Microsoft knew why it was happening and had no solution to offer. My system crashed as soon as I rebooted after installation.

Talkback Chances are if Longhorn requires SP2 not many of us will be sticking with Microsoft.

SP2's firewall is not good enough
Talkback SP2 Firewall doesn't block outbound traffic? Did you even TRY Windows Firewall out at all or were you just guessing? I installed SP2, I uninstalled ZoneAlarm and tested Windows Firewall out with three programs.

Talkback I also have a mesh amd64 system and after a number of attempts to install sp2 (doing all the suggested edits to the registry etc.all that happened was a total system failure requiring me to spend a day re-installing XP.

Talkback Downloaded SP2 and when I went to reboot nothing, tried to reboot using saf mode etc, and still nothing ended up having to reinstall XP Home and then downloaded SP ( no other choice) and it worked but I spend all day installing software and drives

Talkback SP2 also will not work on any Emachines or Gateway notebooks running AMD or mobile P4 processors. You have to reinstall from the restore disk.of course Microsoft says it's Gateway's fault, and Gateway says the opposite.

Talkback In response to Peter Mitchell's comments about microsoft SP2. I also have a Mesh AMD64 PC and will be effected. Howeer was told around september last year Microsoft was aware of the problem and dealing with it.

Talkback All downloading and installing SP2 will do is paralyse my internet connection. Being dial-up that is speed I can't afford to lose.

Talkback After installation of SP2, auto-update on Norton System Works 2003 (incl NAV 2004), refused to install the subscription and virus signature updates. Also the 512mb broadband connection started to go slow, and several web pages refused to work...

Talkback I downloaded and installed SP2 for Windows XP Pro last week and have no apparent problems. All my programs still work. Installation was flawless. The popup blocker works great. I don't understand why so many people are having difficulties.

Talkback I had SP2 installed and it crashed my whole system, I had to pay lots of money to get my computer back working. The tech told me it was due to SP2 as soon as he took it off my system it started working properly again.

Talkback Given the amount of forewarning that was given about SP2 coming and that it would contain pop-up blocking, I am suprised that the banks have waited until now to start testing (or waiting until customer complain that they can't log on).
