Software Jihad
Blog Comment The 2002 version came with a really annoying WGA-like installation applet that just would not let you use the program at all until it was registered, that really pissed me off at the time. Like anything MS produces there is a large fog of...

Software Jihad part 2
Blog My guess is that if they really did put teeth into the WGA and kill OS desktops running illegal copies, they would really piss-off a lot of their potential world-wide market and make a lot of people think twice about putting Microsoft anything on...

Software Jihad
Blog They have had over 3 years now to perfect the WGA crap and it should be “weaponized” and targeted on the software pirates world-wide. I've been reading an article/blog over at CNN talking about the Chinese lawyer that has filed suit on Microsoft...

“Virtually” Dead in the Water
Blog Comment You can remove the WGA from your system from this link; www.softpedia.com/progDownload/RemoveWGA-Download-42782.html Personally I don't want MS, or anyone else having access to my system, no telling what info they are getting.

“Virtually” Dead in the Water
Blog I connected to Windows Update and of course VPC passed its WGA test AGAIN! Well its doing it again. I am re-discovering the joys of running Virtual PC 2007 on a P4 2.6GHz with 1 GB of ram. Not fast enough or enough space.

Microsoft's pre-modern message puts a new face on Vista
Blog Comment WGA immediately comes to mind! I don't know if it its really manageable by a typical user but most of the services could certainly be started manually using a Just-in-time strategy or some sort of a user application.

Evidently there's a Rattled Cage in Redmond.
Blog The updates for SP2 included a WGA "update" and an update to Windows Update itself that was listed after most of the 90+ updates were previously installed. Those were added before the WGA and the Windows Update patches were installed.

XP SP3 is Sick Puppy 3, Stupid Patchwork 3, Stupendous Pain-in-the-A__ 3
Blog Comment What we found was that the Service Pack was at least partially dependent on the WGA "security patch" having to be relatively fresh. When I finally decided to use the SP3 Windows Update service, I deliberately only allowed WGA and the Windows...

Finally my last words on XP SP3, (yeah right, you hope so!)
Blog It will attempt to install an Active X object that turns out to be the WGA, the Windows Greatest Aggravation and it will decide whether or not your computer is legit. BTW this is being entered into the blog using FireFox 3, I managed to get one of...

Ya need XP Service Pack 3? Yeah buddy. I got ya servicepack3 right here!
Blog Comment Although I haven't had a chance to verify it, my opinion is that at some point you have to expose the SP2 install to a WGA download and install from some time after the first of the year (2008). In any case more to come on this Microsoft WGA...

"♬ Service Pack 3 Done give me the Blues♬♬"
Blog I''ll bet you a box of donuts that the combination of the WGA crap and a late update to Windows Installer is what kills SP3 as a complete install. SP2 didn't require WGA to work right. But she ain't virgin anymore, she's got WGA crap on her.

Apple files for DRM system akin to Microsoft
News In August, around 12,000 Windows users found that they could not either register their software, or found that parts of it became unusable, because Microsoft loaded the wrong software during a WGA update.

what to say to customers
Talkback Reminds me of the WGA debacle, saying it was a security update and all the time it was spyware. What about telling them the truth, for a change.

Not all unlicensed windows copies are used by people with eye patches
Talkback However, I had a friend that legitimately bought a PC from an independant store (and paid way over the odds for the shoddy hardware they gave her) and the version of windows wasn't valid and so she couldn't do windows updates because of WGA.

Sometimes it takes a crowbar to convince the Microsofties
Talkback The existence of the "stealth" updates and the WGA crap tells me contrary to the PR, Microsoft CAN kill the box remotely if they want. To enforce it, use WGA in a way that makes sense. I guess the MS salesman hasn't a clue that he's peddling...

Shades of WGA to come from other vendors
Talkback If the Microsoft WGA outage caused this much disruption due to a user error then imagine what will happen when activation measures are deployed badly by more than one vendor - the knock on effects in business will be very disruptive.
