I am going to give an American view on this. I live in California, USA. I am actually research sex offender laws and regulation as a research topic for my college English class.

I have to admit I am very biased about the subject. I was sexually abused and assult by my mother's boyfriend for 5 years before I got help when I was 15. Now before I go to any place, especially when moving, I look at the sex offenders website. I think it is SO vital for the community to know where these sexual offenders live. Here gives you something to think about. This is the reason why the list were started.

Would you let your child (boy or girl) play outside with friends in you front yard if you knew you neighbor had a violent sex offender background?

About 2 years ago a 7-year old little girl was kidnapped from her bed because a sex offender was their neighbor and had been watching her for months and finally decided he could not resist hurting her. He eventually killed and buried her just yard from her own home and was not found for a few months.
