The idea that we should wait for 816 is patent nonsense.

We at A-Antenna Ltd have omni-directional 802.11 antenna systems with gain over 16dBi with a lobe up to 24dBi.

With our systems, 802.11 range is not an issue and a fully redundant multi-channel base station can easily be constructed using standard access points for less than £5,000 and extended range 802.11 client adaptors for fixed installation at sub £250

At these prices there is absolutely no point in spending vast amounts on 816 unless it allows large bandwidth backhaul, which it patently does not.

When all is said, if Microsoft produce the best product people will buy it and thats a good thing. If people have to buy their product because no one else can produce an alternative, only because interoperability protocols are kept secret, then thats a bad thing.
