Story: Virgin takes Wi-Fi up the west coast
Graeme:
All these articles on WiFi connectivity in the UK just demonstrates that the UK is dragging everyone BACK in mobile Internet.
Take a trip to the Nordic countries - and sign up for extended GPRS coverage with a local operator. Chuck the CD-ROM you are provided and install the software on a laptop with Wifi. Now take the laptop to town and hit the net - using the GSM telephone as "modem".
This will activate local WiFii roaming, authorise service and also extend security to the level required by your network administrator to access corporate intranet resources, as your Notes server.
That is also why 3G has no business case here - we have 11Mbps data access, 99% roaming capability - and need 3G only to sell it to others that want it.
