Story: Bright sparks offer broadband over power lines
I am currently using the Southern Electric broadband in Winchester for my Design and Print business which is great when it is working. However this year we have experienced more than 8 days downtime (Two seperate occasions) which makes me think that they are really not ready for dealing with the commercial side of broadband. They do not appear to have enough trained engineers or spare parts and also from my conversations their maintenance contracts are not rigid enough. For example they stop work at 5pm and there is no engineering support over the weekend. Oh and they blame BT a lot!
OK so yes they have been weak on the support front but as a solution it is a great idea and it is very quick. It is very flexible and good in the sense that you don't need to have a new cable installed. Simply plug it in!
I would still probably recommend the service for the home user but I don't know of many businesses who can risk not having an email service these days. I myself will be looking at a backup (I should have had one in place already) and probably another provider.
