Story: The patent nuclear weapon
John Carroll, SIR,
You paint SCO/Caldera as the underdog... well not the truth; the only underdog is Linux and the open source community; SCO/Caldera wants to piggyback on Linux's success by undermining the entire open source movement; making claims that the GPL is not a valid contract. IBM and RedHat have been the only companies that have protected the Linux community.
The fact that this actions by IBM make business sense doesn’t undermine Linux, on the contrary, it shows that companies that act in good faith with this OS have a win/win situation.
SCO/Caldera NEVER expected on going to court with IBM, they only wanted to blackmail it into buying / paying them off.
This is a good analogy to depict the situation:
You (open source community) are being pushed by a bully (SCO/Caldera), and your big brother (IBM) comes and beats the bully up. It is not your big brother’s fault that he has big fists, nevertheless, he knows how to use them.
