It's good to see that technology is ever alive and kicking...and we can see that quite clearly in the microprocessor industry as exemplified by Intel and AMD.

But while faster clock speeds and newer processor architectures are being achieved and done, it's a fact that still, a majority of PC users can pretty much do what they want in their current Athlon XP-based systems. The recent launch of the Athlon 64 FX-51 excites the cult following of AMD (especially the die-hard overclocker fans), but with its steep price-tag, it could only cater to a selected few.

I happen to like AMD, and the way it brought about havoc to Intel's unrelenting monopoly of the processor business, but AMD PC users and fans particularly admired this company because of it's good price-performance ratios. While Intel processors would quickly drain your wallet, we can rest-assured have a pretty hard-working and relatively fast AMD Athlon chip around.

So, I think that unless AMD tries to bring down that steep price to one which is "attractive" for the vast majority, it's market sales might remain in a slump even with the launch of its newest flagship processor...the Athlon 64 FX-51.
