Story: Office 2003 will 'protect Microsoft's monopoly' - Sun

I have been contacted by our computer support co to advise that microsoft are supplying patches for our server, from Microsoft to stop others hacking into the servers, and that they have to put these onto our server.
Is this correct?
Also do we have to have this work done?
