Story: Windows Longhorn: more details emerge
The "technology-driven" phrase tells one more thing: You will have to upgrade your PC to get all that nice stuff running. Surely, Longhorn will run on older machines, too. But I bet you don't get half of the revolutionary features at a useful speed - if at all.
Nice thing if you are a PC-vendor or CPU-maker, isn't it?
It would prove software technology leadership if MS could get at least 80% of the features work on current PC's.
Tell you what: I'm a Mac-User (big surprise, you'll say and stop reading). But I'm jusing OS 10.3 on a laptop with a 450MHz G3 Processor (roughly comparable with a PIII at 800), 320MB RAM, 6GB (yes, that's six Gig) HD and 8MB Videomemory. Even MS-Office 2004 runs on this in a usable speed. Since OS 10.0 with every update, the system became FASTER PLUS MORE features. (Number of bugs and glitches remained stable ;-) just a bit over zero.) No crashes in 4 years.
Do not bet too much on promises what MIGHT come years from now. Concentrate on what IS out there now, be it Windows, Linux, Mac or even Amiga and other less known OSes. They all could learn from each other.
