The Linux/Open Office combination works very well. I currently use Open Office on both Windows (varous versions from 98/Me to 2000/XP) and Linux. The machines are both at work and home.

I recently converted all my MS Office documents and some legacy documents written in AmiPro and WordPerfect to Open Office and it works very well! The new PDF feature is mission-critical at work.

As an educator, I see open source as a must for future network administrators. Our school prepares students for Net+, i-Net+, and Linux+ certification. Our program is about 2 years ahead of most of our competitors.

We have noted more stability with Linux and open source applications, especially on older legacy systems.
