Story: More stealth as outsourcing picks up speed
What else is new? Who could possibly compete in an environment where greed is the corporate mantra, from the CEO to the shareholders, bypassing the stockholders and employees, and the cost of labor is about 1/10th of the domestic marketplace.
First, Congress was convinced, or rather bamboozled, into believing that a national emergency existed in the form of Y2k, when it did not -- allowing for an increase in the H1B Technical Visa program. Though the shortage never materialized, and was never realized, the increase in programmers from foreign shores gave rise to a dual-pay workforce; those working for money and others working for permanent visas.
Meanwhile, the American worker, struggling to support a family, is blind to the bills in Congress and the severe decrease in job opportunities until he/she is laid off and spends over three months seeking new employment only to find flipping burgers at McDonald's is the extent of the so-called newly created job opportunities that Washington and the state houses spend so much time bragging about.
It's amazing that first came the H1Bs and now the onslaught of L1s. Yes, L1s are programmers recruited in their own country by American International companies, and then sent to work in the US for up to three months at a time. Three months being the limit of the L1 Visa. Once the three month period is reached, the worker must exit the country for at least one day before returning -- hmm, how about a one day vacation in Mexico or Canada!! Anyway, L1s are paid the prevailing wage in their home cuntry (1/10th o fthe US wage) while working in the US.
After reading this, can anyone in their right mind wonder where their next job will be, or that of their children?
