With regard to your stay in Germany, Smithy, one can only say that you and I are not completely ignorant about the realities of living.
Much as in Africa, in Europe or in the States, one would be careful of where one stays and where one chooses to eat. Ignorance, much like any other social disfunction is not restricted to particular boarders - In this respect, because I know people who are critical of the behaviour of US citizens in the US, and there are many who have a lot to say about racism in the US too, would not mean that I would take that to mean that all US citizens are racists. In Europe much like in the States there are people of many races in Gov. If you would like to check, there are even black representatives of the far right French national party - "Whether your or I agree with this or not is irrelevant. The fact is that there are members and they are there". So one would say that I cannot view things so polarly.
Anti racist policies do not just aid immigrants, but they also aid the country absorbing them, in that such policies enable immigrants to reach full productivity more rapidly thereby permitting enhanced productivity and better transition management. The truth now is that no country can exist without immigrants - and skilled immigrants themselves tend to go where they are best treated, so its best to treat them well - else gaps in production emmerge.
