Story: Leaving your prints all over the place

That is going to create an interesting market in old hardware and software.
For example we have an older Mac running OS9 and photoshop 4. It has a gazillion workflow oriented custom scripts that don't work on newer hardware/OS's so that's why it's been left alone.
The interesting thing that I tried after reading your aritcle is making a copy of the new 20 dollar bill. No problem and it printed remarkbly well to a new dye sub printer connected to it. Other than the texture of the paper was wrong, it was indistinguishable.
I can see the mob et. al. hoarding this "old stuff"
