this comment is regarding the impact on consumers, not on the server-side.
the EU commission appears to have forgotten that most consumers would rather have PCs shipped ready to run whatever they throw at it. with more and more WMA files on the internet, i cant imagine ANYONE wanting another media player on their PC. unless Real (the only, sorry, real competitor in this area, in my opinion) bucks up and starts to offer deals, there would be no competition in terms of media players anyway. i havent seen many people impressed with Real. and anyway, why cant PC makers bundle another media player, or any other software, with their PCs, in the first place? the commission is making up for lack of competitive spirit on the part of rival software makers. this is not what it should be doing--if the rivals cant swim, they deserve to sink.
