Torvalds is right, of course. Patents and copyrights have become the main weapons used to prevent other people from sharing in the benfits of technologies without paying a hefty premium to some supposed “owner”. The lawyers have become more creative than the engineers: one-click shopping, look-and-feel… What do any of these have to do with the original idea of patents or copyrights?
