In all seriousness, I think your Apple/Xerox facts are a little thin. Instead of checking your facts by what other (probably inaccurate) reporters (note I didn't use "journalists") have written in the past and regurgitating it, do some original research and reporting.
Besides, writers have copyright law to protect their works, why shouldn't companies have patents to protect their IP. I notice that there isn't a "creative commons" copyright notice on zdNet articles/info.
