Story: Is your anti-virus program still working?

My Norton auto-protect feature suddenly stopped working even though it showed as being enabled in the little pop-up window. After many frustrating hours trying to find what was wrong I discovered that ZoneAlarm 5 has a bug that disables email protection in at least some Norton applications. I only discovered this by logging on to the ZoneAlarm user group. ZoneAlarm had recognised the proplem and posted a little note in their FAQ's suggesting that anyone with the problem should revert to the previous version. Not a very professional response from a company in the security business! Now that I've reverted to version 4.5 they're still sending me prompts to update to the version that doesn't work. If they can do that why can't they send out notifications of the problem? I'm sure it must have affected people who haven't even noticed - set & forget non-technical users who rely on products like Zone Alarm to keep them safe.
