Daily Express £10 Cruise Offer/Rise Travel (also trading as "Hidden Retreats")

Someone asked if they should be wary of this offer or if there was anything to worry about. The answer, quite simply, is YES!

Rise Travel give the impression of being out of their depth, not efficient, not caring, not interested, unequipped to conduct this offer in an honest and straightforward way, cheating, lying, unprofessional, sales oriented at any cost (to the consumer), blundering scammers who delight at the misery of the poor, unsuspecting people who take up the Daily Express' offer in all good faith.

Anyone querying their tactics over the phone are referred to the "small print" which clashes with the offer headline (below).

In effect, the offer isn't worth the paper it's printed on! It is I suspect, in the vast majority of cases, proven to be a tissue of lies.

This "company" and the Daily Express should feel the full force of any law come down upon them and should be made to realise that this kind of conduct can in no way be tolerated.

My partner was, eventually (after many months of waiting) allocated a £10 cruise to the Western Caribbean departing 5th November 2005 (although the original offer was for and should have been a cruise in December 2004).

Today (29 January 2005) we received a telephone call from a quite impolite female employee of Rise Travel's call centre informing us that, should my partner wish to go on the £10 Daily Express cruise she had already been allocated, it would cost her an extra £799

These people are, to all intents and purposes it seems, scamming people out of their hard earned cash using a false offer of a £10 cruise.

At the very least, there appear to have been insufficient berths available to cope with the demand caused by the huge, over-the-top banner headlines used by the overhyping Daily Express and Sunday Express promoting the offer as a "£10 CRUISE FOR EVERY READER" when this quite obiously is patently NOT the case.

I am sure the increased sales of the Express and the profit which goes with it far outweighs any guilt they should feel in misleading their readership into thinking they will get rewarded for religiously collecting the tokens from their rag for over a month.

Some people may actually get to go on these cruises for £10 but I am willing to bet my bottom dollar that the VAST majority of people will be left either out of pocket or very disappointed or both.

Surely this kind of business and the companies and/or people who perpetrate it should be brought to book.

Steer clear of Rise Travel, Hidden Retreats and The Daily Express.
