Story: Firefox 1.0PR: a first look
Tabbed Browsing really works well. What happens is you go through a site like bbc.co.uk, or zdnet perhaps, and middle click on Linux, ctrl-click perhaps on Windows, on all the interesting looking links. These pop up in the background in new tabs. Then, at your leasure, you work through the tabs, adding any more if you feel the need. By the time you get to the tabs they are most likely completely loaded, even on a slower connection.
Its a much more efficient user experience than fighting IE's many windows. The way you use the browser changes. Plugins for firefox also allow grouping and colouring of related tabs to make it easier, and you can bookmark whole tab sets. AdBlock is just amazing - and allows the setting of rules to block in-page adverts too. This will become more powerful once more people use XP2's popup blocker and advertisers need to switch to other techniques to work around it. Adblock is already there.
A user commented on the user interface looking flat and boring. On Linux it picks up the GtK theme in use. Linux themes had the nice shaded 3D look available to them years before XP. Its amazing - now XP is starting to look more like Linux! So many of Microsoft's "innovations" in its interface existed first on Linux desktops.
