If sun are going to continue down this road its going to isolate them from die hard fans in the market. Many people see sun as being a fairly trustworth and reliable company. Having business plans like this will make them out to some as being more microsoftish. But at the same time this will play into many peoples alreaddy growing dislike of redhat and thier offerings at what many people see as being costly for a "free" os with patches and if you dont call support its an unbelievably expensive license.

With sun and operton it could really make inroads into the dedicated hosting market alot better than it would/could have with solaris + x86 on crap hardware. People can sell a True sun solution on X86-64. especially as v10 is meant to have true x86-64 instruction set support/optimisation (yet to be seen by myself).

In reality though the Wall street businesses are not going to be running that much linux at this stage. living and working as a system admin in london Ive not seen any of the UK companies adopt linux on a commercial level. Many use it for mail servers etc but thats not where the money is really at.
