I sorely missed Altavista Discovery when it was withdrawn and couldn't find a suitable replacement - until now when the Google Desktop search program came to the rescue. It's blisteringly quick even on my 700Mhz PIII. The installation was a breeze and now that the indexing is complete (on my very considerable document store) I can find my documents and e-mails in milliseconds. Reading the 'Help' files re-assures me that concerns such as the location of the index file, shared computers, networked drives, etc., are being addressed or considered by Google for future enhancements. This software is already once of the most valuable on my system and I’m quite sure that it will be the benchmark for other products! All that and it's free! Well done again Google.
