Story: Munich's Linux plans attract international attention
HA! While they attract a lot of attention others are simply switching to linux without much fuss...
The company where I work in Denmark decided 8 months ago to switch to linux on its 40 PCs and here is what we did:
Installed LTSP on 2 ordinary 2,4 GHz PC's running Mandrake linux with 1,5 Gb RAM
Converted all users PC's to dumb terminal.
Now we all use OpenOffice, Mozilla og Firefox, Evolution and a number of other programs. We share CD-burners and scanners which we could'nt before and we saved a lot of money by dropping Microsoft, - money that we use elsewhere to improve business.
We were somewhat worried about how the users would react to the change, but there has been very little frustrations, - probably not more than any other major change would inflict, and now 6-8 months later the users hardly remembers the old programs and certainly do not miss the crashes or the frequent downtime. We have had 100% uptime since the switch to linux running 24/7 with no reboot
