As a tax payer and a veteran IT Pro I wish my government would adopt Open Source more and more for various reasons.

Despite various sponsored research 'findings' adoption of Open Source (based) solutions will:

- save tax payer money
- decrease overhead cost
- help the local economy
- offer choice by avoiding lock-in
- use royalty free and lasting industry standard communication, document, storage, etc formats and protocols
- increase innovation
- increase security
- increase long-term vendor relationships based on mutual benefits and actual results
- make vendor liability possible
- etc

Ofcourse assuming that real professionals are at work and not a bunch of wannabees (including managers) with a hidden agenda or a loyalty not bigger then their next paycheck.

One fo the reasons why Open Source (based) works is because it's build to last (avoid hazzle) while other solutions out there are build to be replaced in a few years time.

What Open Source won't do is help the rich getting richer. So you may get an argument from them or whatever lobbiest they hire. If not already.
