Alan, Microsoft were dead against the internet to begin with. They said "forget about that, it will never amount to anything, the Microsoft Network - that's the way to go" (remember the icon on your Win'95 desktop?). As one BBC commentator has said: "They were as wrong as it is possible to be and still survive as a company". Only when it was obvious the internet would succeed did they do a politician's U turn and start to get behind it. Then what...the browser wars and illegal business practices...iIf M$ had had their way we would all be paying to use the Microsoft Network all the time which would consist of nothing but m$ sponsored and approved content, not much 'freedom to innovate' there. No. The internet has flourished INSPITE of m$, not because of it. We would all do very well to remember that.
