Story: Intel to publicly back municipal broadband

One thing needs to be clear about these municipal owned fiber networks. These network infrastructure is just an infrastructure. The municipalities are not providing any kind of service, or at least should not. The point of these networks is to facilitate broadband services. So Verizon, if they choose to, still can provide service through these fiber networks competing against other providers. They simply won't have a monopoly position anymore, which will benefit everyone.
