I hope this isn't seen as a defeat, and a win for the big companies. Bureaucrats, especially at the EU level are able to make a mountain out of anything, they'll just keep going on and on. I'm not surprised he's decided to get on with his life.

There will be further activation issues to watch out for as Microsoft plans to offer a similar service to independent software vendors whereby they can "control" licensing through activation and other measures similar to the Software Protection Platform.
