One of the big sticking points on ID cards is the ID database the Gov want to keep. This has all the hallmarks of Big Brother. I would prefer to keep my data on a chip card encrypted in segments by the private keys of those who can change the data, encrypted again by a random key which is then encrypted by the public key of those who can read the different segments of data. Maybe this might help the introduction of the ID Card without a Big Brother database. We all hold our own profile, only those with the right private key can read the autorized segment of data only (geat for lost crads) and only when the crad is presnted by the owner (verified by an private key encrypted photo). With the relevant CA structure in place this might just work. BUt I do not think the Gov want this, they could just be after the Database!!!!
