Piracy is the best protection for companies from Adobe to MSWindows, and they know it. MS Windows is the most pirated software on the planet, and thats why it's the world leader. If it couldn't be pirated most people would not buy it, they would buy something much cheaper. Apple, Adobe, Microsoft and the rest would have massive, perhaps even fatal, competition.
The BSA keep telling us how much more the economy would have without Piracy...wrong, it would have less. The corporate buyers would consider the cheaper alternatives ( look at Linux Apache) and go for that, with a workforce fully conversent with a 'cheaper' system, as it would probably be the most common.
