Story: Future of DVD mired in confusion
Making a unified player and recorder that can support both players, costs more money and slows the time-to-market of the new product. They are just trying to avoid the previous fiasco that gave birth to DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RAM, etc, etc. If they decide on one format now we will have dirt cheap players, recorders and media in a very short time, but if not it will take longer and cost more.
