Story: Digital rights group to fight data retention
How much more, hard fought for, rights will be thrown overboard in the name of child porn, terrorism, crime fighting, illegal immigrants, wellfare abuse, child abuse, electronic crimes and what not before government agencies will run out of excuses?
It seems that every time something hits the front pages for a while some politician will stand up and demand regulation this, give up right that or else.
Next thing you know, years and plenty of tax money later, it didn't work out quite as expected. But never fear, the "solution" is, ofcourse, more of the same that has been tried before.
Sorry, but isn't it time to take a hard long look at ourselves in retrospect? To make a stand where we stand for. To not be governed by fear and symptom fighting? But rather by positive attitude and values? Like: this is who we are and if we are to be condemned then let's be condemned for who we are.
Sure, that won't provide a 100% procent answer either. And things will go wrong somewhere. But at least we'll loose as little as possible in the process.
