Story: UK police crack down on billion-pound Internet scams
I was nearly a victim of crime via e bay when I was offered second chance on a plasma screen TV for £860 from someone who contacted me outside of e bay, by e mail.
When I approached a local travle agent to send the money using my credit card, I was advised that only cash could be sent this way. I declined.
my comments are:
1. Why do e bay list Western Union as a means of payment, when it clearly should never ever be used. Yes they give warnings.. but in this day and age surely this method of payment is obsolete.
2. I advised e bay that there was a potential fraud here, and suggested that something should be done to stop it now, at this stage, in view of the fact that I had the contacts details.. address , even. Nothing done!!
3. E bay comes over to me as a headless amorphous blob, out of control. You try to find a phone contact.. The ultimate thieves are the founders who probably (unfounded by fact) will make $millions when their baby is sold to a mega organisation.
People should not be subjected to this, e bay should have it sorted before being allowed to operate OR closed down immediately.
