I'm afraid that they'll learn the benefits of opting for diversity the hard way. One silver bullet and they not only have to handle 14.5M possible problems but at the same time find and implement new solution(s) for 14.5M people. That can burn up money saved now very very quickly. Not even mentioning that one-size-fits-all solutions usually finds users that want choices (or simply something else for all the right reasons) in their way.
In short: offering choices is what customers like and spreads risks, various risks even. Not to mention maintenance peaks that are usual in system life-cycles.
