Story: Microsoft throws governments a standardisation bone
Further to the good summary by John (first poster) I can only add that it is depressing how many times everyone falls (and continues ot fall) for this 'thimble and pea' trick that MS manage to use with greta success.
We have seen the subjugation of standards by MS over and over again. Sometimes (as in Sendmail) it doesn't work, but in most areas, their success in hoodwinking otherwise sensible and knowledgable people is simply breathtaking. The incredible part is how predictable their strategems are: you just have to know they will do it over and again, always with selective arguments, good PR etc etc.
Never underestimate the weight of money in our world.
