Story: Holographic storage punishes DVD dalliance
Okay I read it but readers started to digress into quantum technology and the inventor was obviously picking holes in the advances that Maxell are going to make.
Basically it comes down to the advances that companies are making are becoming less and less, because of physical limits. Alright, from what I read Maxell's drive will not be THE solution, i.e. it doesn't read/write lots of times and not head resistant etc...
But its an incremental step, this collosal storage is due for the end of the decade, if it gets funding, who'se going to take it up? I know that next year Maxell are coming out with a 300GB disk and decent transfer times, the discs will be as robust as the DVD's I use now and will certainly last long enough untill 2009 rolls around, when supposedly all prayers will be answered.
P.S. removable HDD are a joke comparred to 1.6TB dics that are light and wafer thin
