Its actually funny that Linux isn't the main business desktop. Where I work we actually use a Unix or rather AIX server and we use Windows on the desktop. However, I installed for fun a computer with Yoper Linux and found it amazing that we didn't need any of the third party tools to access our Unix server just a terminal which was 100% faster. We also use our browsers to comunicate with the software that our vendors provide us with for ordering and creating build sheets and found that since the application is Java based it actually outperforms internet explorer when we use firefox to access it! We also share files on an old NT server (management is cheap) and we could access the files easier from Linux since we simply typed in the konqueror browser [smb://servername] and presto user name and login popped up! we didn't have to bother with mapping a drive. Okay what about printers? We tried using the shared network printer and we got funny text to print but its probably because we may have selected the wrong driver. The local printer worked just fine. In my opinion Linux is ready for the business desktop but our network manager is into his own thing {remember were still using NT which Microsoft doesn't even support anymore] and management is happy to leave things alone unless there is a problem.
