In regards to group policy. ZENworks for Linux 7 is able to manage desktop policies, however it is only a frontend to the existing capabilities of Gnome and KDE.

There are guides all over the internet for managing policies on hundreds of Linux workstations simultaneously in Gnome and KDE.
