Story: So why not put Linux on your business desktops?

Your article omits one very large and important difference in running the two desktops.

You mistakingly compare a generic, off the shelf Linux distro with an off the shelf Microsoft product. But that is not the reality. The reality is that any corporation has a standard desktop, or set of desktops (admin, engineering) and so on. For a large company like Boeing, this is highly reviewed and restricted.

Now, the Linux advantage is that it can be completely customized. Boeing could build its own enhancements to the Suse installer that optimize it for Boeing's need. Same with packages and so on. So, to compare the desktop installs of two home user-types and make that a model for the "corporate desktop" shows a complete lack of understanding.
