Story: Microsoft licences too expensive, say schools
Kingsoft Office
I just discovered Kingsoft Office today. I've installed it on WinXP and Win7, on a 100 day trial basis.
First impressions are very encouraging. It looks better on Win7 (and presumably Vista) than it does on WinXP. Either way, it's easy to use and quick.
Until the end of the month, Software 602 have an introductory offer on this software, since their own Office Suite has been discontinued, for circa £34, depending on the exchange rate, for a 3 user deal. Go here if you are interested.

There is also a similar 3 user deal on Kingsoft Internet Security for circa £19. Again, there is a substantial trial period which can be extended to 6 months.
These offers are well below the prices on Kingsoft's own site.
