Story: Fur flies over Google desktop privacy
Holstein's educational environment is obviously a lot different to mine. I am a part time lecturer at a local university in the Informatics faculty. There the machines are re-loaded with a uniform roll-out of software for each semester.
Any software to be included in the build has to be agreed before the semester begins and nothing can be loaded onto the machines until the next semester - this is the general lab computers and faculty computers. Personal laptops connected to the uni wifi net are of course a different matter.
I haven't found a use for the desktop search yet, but I don't like the idea of it storing my files online. Not a feature I would want anyway, will be left switched off if I ever find a use for the desktop search.
