I've not downloaded OpenOffice but I am aware that it is available for free both from the net and on PC magazine discs; I believe they are on version 2 now.
I previously bought the Ability Office Suite for less than £40 and have been delighted with it. Therefore I didn't have the need to add another 'office software' program, but for individual home users who are not students the advantages of OpenOffice seem vast, also one PC magazine "Computer-active" feature have featured a number of workshops on OpenOffice and the most negative comment I recall them saying was that the thesaurus is a US English version and not UK.
If you are having a PC built then using either program will save you a great deal of money and they both
inter-act with programs such as Microsoft 'Word' etc.
PC owners deserve a choice and Microsoft deserve a wake up call on there prices to individuals, at home and this market must be one of the biggest of all.
