There is no doubt that there are many who go about totally blinkered to what happens and need automatic protection.

We now have Microsoft automatically activating firewalls and no doubt will offer more in Vista. This goes quite a way down the line but at what price. Are we going to be totally tied to the provider of such software or are we given freedom of choice.

The argument is compelling provided we are not locked into say Microsoft with a price structure that is only good for Microsoft or whoever we have been locked into.
