Story: Negroponte: 'Software is too fat'
Perhaps old dogs like me remember the words "System Generation." It was a critical task for mainframe's system administrator. In those days, OS components were selected and generated into user-specific OS environment by the user oneself. If current OS for PCs or servers were designed in modular way, we could generate the most simple form of OS, which were inheretly fastest. It is impossible in Windows world, but Linux can, I suppose.
