Story: Microsoft's JPEG alternative: WIMP?
"a smaller file can also print faster, transfer faster and help conserve battery life on devices".
All very untrue as the file needs to be uncompressed prior to printing and battery life is not conserved as the calculation overhead incurred compressing and decompressing required more than makes up for the longer loading times.
JPEG2000, which is lossless or lossy (your choice) really is the way to go.
